[Graylag Goose (domestic type)] x Canada Goose (hybrid)

Anser anser x Branta canadensis

Status: Accidental in winter

Taxonomy: According to Bird Hybrids: domestic Greylag Goose x Canada Goose, this hybrid is quite variable, as are domestic Graylag Geese in North America.

Record: The single record is of one photographed near Grand Island, Hall Co 16 Feb 2020 (Flohr, eBird.org).

Comments: All Graylag Goose records in Nebraska are of domestic types; wild vagrancy is not expected (see Graylag Goose account, https://birds.outdoornebraska.gov/graylag-goose/). More reports of this hybrid should follow as observers study goose flocks more closely for unusual individuals, especially in park settings. Some indicators of this hybrid are bulky structure, especially a heavy rear end, and bright bare parts (Bird Hybrids: domestic Greylag Goose x Canada Goose).
