Spatula cyanoptera x clypeata
Status: Accidental in spring.
Records: There are two records:
20 Mar 2022 Lake Wanahoo, Saunders Co (Meester, eBird.org)
16-19 May 2023 Wagon Train RA, Lancaster Co (eBird.org)
Comments: According to “Bird Hybrids” (Bird Hybrids: Index of Bird Hybrids) this is an uncommon hybrid, although not unexpected (Gammonley 2020). There are about 10 records from the Front Ranges of Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana, two reports from Iowa, and one from Ohio (eBird.org, accessed 24 March 2022). Most are for Mar-Apr, although the Ohio record is Jan-Feb 2022.
