Buteo jamaicensis x BUTEO lagopus
Status: Rare casual winter visitor.
Records: Presumably the same bird has been photographed during three winters in the area of Prairie Queen RA, Sarpy Co. Records are 2 Mar 2023 (Elizabeth Winter, https://ebird.org/checklist/S130021469), 14 Dec 2023 Sarpy Co (photos, S. Krout), 3-10 Mar 2024, and 8 Nov 2024.
Comments: There are about 15 records scattered across North America (eBird.org, accessed Jan 2024). Although rare, this hybrid combination is likely overlooked because of subtle plumage differences among hybrids and parent species.
